This year’s ILSI Research Foundation Annual Scientific Symposium will explore Protected Production of Fruits and Vegetables.
Protected cultivation of fruits and vegetables occurs using varied production systems that range from inexpensive, simple polytunnels to high-cost, high-technology production platforms that rely almost entirely on artificial sources of light and other inputs. Protected production can provide for improved access to nutritious foods off-season, and in areas where open field production may simply not be possible such as in urban and peri-urban spaces. This event will explore whether protected cultivation of fruits and vegetables can actually meet expectations to provide affordable, accessible, and nutritious foods sustainably in both developed and developing countries.
